Free Blackberry Curve 8330 Review
My current contract with my cell phone provided is almost up. And i’ve been contemplating on which smart phone I want. I currently have the LG Dare phone which i’ve had for almost 2 years now.
But if i’m like a lot of people out there, then you can understand what I mean when I say that “i’m getting pretty bored with the phone” and I think it’s time to get something new.
So i’ve narrowed it down between two Smart phones with 2 carriers. One is the Blackberry Curve from Verizon Wireless and the other is another Blackberry Curve 8330 from Sprint.
If you’re in the market for a new “Blackberry Curve 8330″, here’s a review from my experience using the phone.
And if you’re looking to get a FREE Blackberry Curve 8330, there are companies that do offer the Smart phones for free. And the only networks that use the Blackberry Curve 8330 are Sprint and Verizon Wireless. You might also want to check with the authorized carrier independent cell phone dealers. They often have FREE phone promotions.
I think that the Sprint BlackBerry Curve 8330 is a strong improvement over the Verizon Wireless version of the same phone. Sprint has added extra applications compared to the Verizon Blackberry Curve.
On Sprint’s Blackberry Curve, there was plenty of instant messaging options, including GTalk, as well as the Facebook app for BlackBerry.
The Sprint BlackBerry Curve 8330 has excellent battery life and improved scheduling capabilities. In my opinion, this is probably the best BlackBerry on the market, as well as the best smart phone offered by Sprint.
Call quality on the Sprint Blackberry Curve 8330 was about the same as the Verizon Wireless version. It gets all of the great calling features, including a nice speakerphone, bluetooth for handsfree calling, conference calling and voice dialing.
The Sprint BlackBerry Curve has an excellent battery life of eight hours of talk time. And it also got consistently better reception.
In messaging, Sprint offers lots of useful software, with some great instant messaging from AOL, Yahoo and Google.
The Sprint Blackberry Curve has a Facebook application so users can keep in touch with their online friends and update their profiles from the phone.
The calendar on the Sprint BlackBerry Curve 8330 is improved over the original Curve. It looks nicer than before and with the nice color highlights that make it easier to read.
The Sprint BlackBerry Curve 8330 includes an updated media menu, and an over-the-air music store.
The price to download a track is $0.99, and for every track you buy you also get to download a file to your PC.
The 3.5mm headphone jack and stereo Bluetooth support is great for music listening. Sprint has also included a 1GB microSD memory card.
The Sprint BlackBerry Curve 8330 uses the carrier’s own Sprint Navigator for driving directions, and I think the TeleNav-based application is better than the VZ Navigator.

For Office attachments you’ll need DocsToGo. For Adobe attachments you’ll need BeamReader. DocsToGo comes from OS 4.5 and above. Samsung Rant
Every night, I battle my TV. Just as I’m settling in to a nice, relaxing half-slumber while listening to Sarah-Jessica-Parker-as-Carrie-Bradshaw rant about men, I find myself rudely awakened by some horrendous Livelinks commercial. Suddenly I’m in a mad rush to find the remote so I can down the volume.” -A Cure for Loud TV Commercials
The problem: Commercials are too loud
TV watchers have a problem. Networks wantonly make their commercials louder then their main programming. This makes for some irritated viewers, like the viewer above. Many viewers have complained to the FCC, the Federal Communications Commission. Not surprisingly, the FCC has not fixed the problem, in spite of the complaints.
One possible high-tech solution
Interestingly, the author claims there is another solution, a new electronic device, called Dolby Volume, which supposedly will modulate the TV volume while not disturbing the quality of the show’s soundtrack.
This may be a solution to the problem, a rather excessive, convoluted one. However, I wonder why the author and so many others do not consider simpler, more obvious solutions. Instead, they wait for technology to fix the problem or pester their government to get the networks in line.
Three low-tech solutions
There are at least a couple of other low-tech solutions. One is the “fast-forward” button. Record all your shows with your VCR or DVR and fast forward through all the commercials. At 16 or so minutes (32 30-second commercials) of commercials per hour, you could not only eliminate the problem of high-volume commercials, you could cut back your TV watching time by 25% with this simple little trick. In fact, the loud noise could serve to shock you out of your hypnotic TV trance just enough to hit the fast-forward button.
There is also the “mute” button. The only condition for that solution is that you do need to keep the remote control handy. So, that may not work if you are trying to use the TV to fall asleep. Nonetheless, that is a genuine solution to keep in mind for other times. While the muted commercials are playing you could talk to your family or read instead. It is also easier to un-mute the volume once the show comes back on.
The other obvious solution is the “OFF” button. Turn off your TV and then you do not have to worry at all about the TV’s volume. Just imagine the peace and quiet if you implement that solution!
Probably, however, some of you think I am joking. Such a radical solution! Consider, however, how you would react if any other company failed this miserably to meet your expectations or caused you so much grief after purchase. You would immediately stop doing business with them. You would tell all your friends and they would stop doing business with them too. Soon such a company would have no clients and would be out of business.
Why is TV so different?
Why do people look to the government to fix the numerous problems or wait for some miracle techno-gadget, instead of using the most obvious solutions, one of which is to stop watching TV?
Is TV so addictive that most people cannot?
The a la carte programming debate was another example of this mentality. Many people were upset that cable companies bundled their programming together, forcing customers to pay for adult-oriented programming in order to receive Disney and other family-oriented programs. To fix this problem several groups petitioned the government to force the cable companies to offer a la carte programming, instead of the bundled packages.
People turned to the government instead of simply refusing to do business with the offending cable companies. If people want family-oriented programming, they can simply rent some of the thousands of family movies that are available, or they can enjoy some genuine family-oriented activities instead, like playing games or playing outdoors together.
Likewise, the author above suffers though the jarring commercial interruptions. She admits that she uses the TV to relax at night. To her, it appears the TV is a sleep aid–a sleep aid that apparently does not work very well. Wouldn’t the obvious solution be to stop using the TV at bedtime and try an alternate solution? Perhaps, a good book might work better as an aid to relax or sleep.
Will you suffer or solve?
Of course, this new techno-gadget might help. However, if it fails to resolve the problem, will she finally turn off the TV at least at bedtime? Or will she suffer until the government or some new gadget fixes the problem?
How about you? Will you fix the myriad problems with TV yourself? Or will you wait for some nameless inventor or the government to fix things and suffer needlessly in the meantime?

What phone is better: the samsung rant or the samsung instinct for my 14 yr old daughter?
my daughter wants a new phone..but she wants the instinct but i want her to get the samsung rant.the only reason she says she doesn’t want the samsung rant is because most people at her school have that phone and her best friend also has that phone.Please help me i don’t know what phone to get.
Bottom line, I think you should get her what she wants. But it’s worth noting that I have the Samsung Instinct, and as time goes by, the touchscreen gets a little off, making it really difficult to text. And their calibration is worthless. Try and tell her this, and if she doesn’t want to hear it, get her the Instinct and let her learn from her mistakes. Obviously you won’t be buying her a second phone, it’s too expensive. But even with all my touchscreen drama, I love my phone, and I’m sure she’ll love hers too. Just hope she doesn’t text much! Good Luck mom!

How to learn about HTC Touch Pro2 software?
bought an HTC Touch Pro2 (Sprint) recently–my first “smart phone”–and I am thrilled! It has some fantastic features that I LOVE, and I’m eager to learn how to REALLY take advantage of all it has to offer.
My only complaint is that both the printed and online documentation seem to be somewhat lacking.
Do you have any recommendations on ways to learn about adding software to it? (Okay, I’ll admit it… I miss Sudoku from my Palm Centro!)
A Google search for “HTC Touch Pro2 free apps” reveals LOTS
ofWindows Mobile programs, but how do I (a) determine which ones will run on MY phone, and (b) download and install them?
I’m not even sure which version of Windows I’m running. The Sprint store supposedly installed the latest version (6.5???)…
but when I go to Start > Settings > About Phone > Software information I see that I have “OS version 5.2.20121324.1.” Surely that doesn’t mean I’m running THAT old a version of WindowsMobile, does it?
Of course, it also shows that my browser is MSIE version 6.0, and I’m running version 8.0 on my desktop, so maybe I do need a serious update already…
Any help you can give me to get started on the right foot will be greatly appreciated!

HTC Touch pro2 usually comes with Windows mobile 6.5 but as you have mentioned that the operating system version installed on the phone is 5.2, you will have to get the operating system on the phone updated. Once the operating system on the phone is updated. Hence first get the operating system upgraded on the phone and then install the applications on the phone.

I don’t think so as the snow and ice really play havoc with phones. Best way is to communicate by Dog Sled. Way faster then by sprint phones.

There are now more than 190 million cell-phone subscribers, more than one per household, on average. A small but steadily growing number of people use a cell phone (a.k.a. a mobile phone) as their only phone. Phone manufacturers and wireless-service providers are promoting new generations of equipment that let users do much more than merely make phone calls.
Despite its popularity, wireless service has a reputation for problems: dead zones, where you can’t get service; calls that inexplicably end in midconversation; inadequate capacity, so you can’t put a call through when you want; hard-to-fathom calling plans; and errors in bills. Problems like those are why one-third of the cell-phone users we’ve surveyed say they’re seriously considering a switch of carrier.
Switching is now much easier than ever, thanks to the government mandate on local number portability. However, keep in mind that the phones themselves aren’t portable. If you switch carriers, expect to buy a new phone.
WHAT’S AVAILABLE
The cell-phone itself is only part of what you need. You also have to sign up for service with a wireless provider and choose a calling plan. You can find phones in many outlets, including independent wireless retailers, electronics stores, and Web sites.
The providers. The major national companies are Cingular (which merged with AT&T Wireless), Nextel, Sprint PCS (which is in the process of merging with Nextel), T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless. There are also numerous local or regional providers.
You’ll often find phones described as tri-mode, dual-band, tri-band, or multi network. Those terms describe the ways a phone can connect to one or more wireless networks. Here are the specifics:
* Tri-mode phones can access a digital network in two frequency bands and older analog wireless networks.
* Dual-band phones can connect to a digital network, but in two different frequency bands. GSM providers often use the term 850/1900 MHz instead of dual-band.
* Multinetwork phones are compatible with more than one digital network, often in two frequency bands. Some can also access analog networks.
* Tri-band or ‘World Phones’ operate on GSM networks in both the U.S. and abroad. Those with 850/1800/1900 MHz capability can operate on two bands domestically and one internationally. Those with 900/1800/1900 MHz capability operate on one band in the U.S. (1900 MHz) and two bands internationally.
The calling plans. Most providers offer a range of plans based around a “bucket” of calling time minutes. The more minutes in the bucket, the more the plan costs you each month. However, the total number of minutes isn’t the most important figure. Some of those minutes may be good anytime, others available only on nights and weekends; if you exceed the allotment of minutes, you’ll be charged 35 to 50 cents per minute, depending on the plan. Cingular, alone among the major carriers, lets customers roll over unused minutes to the next month. Most plans require you to sign a one- or two-year contract and levy a hefty fee if you want to cancel before the contract expires.
Prepaid plans can be a good alternative if you’re averse to a long-term contract. Many wireless providers, as well as Virgin Mobile, Liberty Wireless, Metro PCS, and Tracfone, offer prepaid calling. You pay in advance for airtime minutes, which typically last 45 to 60 days before they expire.
The phones. Some are simple rectangles with a display window and keypad on the front. Others are curvaceous or have a flip-open cover to protect the keys. The major phone manufacturers are Audiovox, Kyocera, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Panasonic, Samsung, Sanyo, and Sony-Ericsson. Light weight is pretty much standard. All the newer phones can send and receive text messages up to 160 characters long to or from any other cell-phone user, and most phones now come with a full-color display. You’ll also see phones that can play popular computer games, are integrated with a digital camera, offer wireless Internet access, or that are combined with a personal digital assistant (PDA).
IMPORTANT FEATURES
Some cell-phone makers and service providers are offering so-called 3G service, which enhances the speed of data transfer. 3G services deliver reasonably fast, secure connections to the Internet and allow you to use the cell phone for playing and downloading audio and video, multimedia messages, and e-mail.
Among basic cell-phone features, look for a display that is readable in both low- and bright-light conditions. Be sure it’s easy to see the battery-life and signal-strength indicators and the number you’re dialing. The keypad should be clearly marked and easy to use. Programmable speed dial allows you to recall stored names and numbers by pressing one key. Single-key last-number redial is useful for dropped calls or when you’re having trouble connecting. Most phones these days have voice dial, which lets you dial someone’s phone number by speaking their name. But the number and name have to be in your phone’s contact list, and you have to program each voice dial name–a time-consuming process. Voice command-enabled phones don’t require training. You can dial anyone’s number in your contact list, and even dial a number not in the list by speaking the digits.
In addition to ringing, most handsets have a vibrating alert or a flashing light-emitting diode to let you know about an incoming call, useful when you’re in a meeting or at the movies. Handiest is an easy-to-mute ringer, which switches from ring to vibrate when you press and hold one key. Volume controls on the side let you change the earpiece volume level without moving the phone too far from your ear. You can’t do that if the volume controls are on the keypad. A speakerphone boosts the earpiece volume and microphone sensitivity, so you carry on a conversation without having the phone against your ear.
Some cell-phone models include a headset. That capability is sometimes demanded by various local laws for drivers using cell phones. A standard headset connector (also known as a 2.5-mm connector) is the most common type of headset connector. If you frequently use headsets but hate fussing with cords, consider a phone with Bluetooth voice capability, which allows you to use a cordless headset. Not all phones with Bluetooth are equal. Bluetooth data lets you transfer pictures and contacts, etc. to other Bluetooth-enable devices like printers, PDAs, and computers. Bluetooth data capability is found on GSM phones, but no on CDMA phones.
Many CDMA phones have analog backup capability, which may be important if you travel through rural areas, or places where your digital carrier doesn’t provide service. Phones with analog capability can sometimes connect in places where digital-only phones cannot.
Phones vary widely in keypad design and readability of screen displays, as well as in the ease of using the function menu or performing such basic tasks as one-button redial and storage of frequently called numbers for speed-dialing later. It’s important to handle a phone in the store before you buy, to be sure its design and your fingers are well-matched.
HOW TO CHOOSE
Begin by selecting a service. Finding good service where you want it can be a challenge. The best way is to ask your friends and business associates–people who literally travel the same roads you do–how satisfied they are with their cell-phone service. In addition, keep in mind that Verizon Wireless has consistently come in first in Consumer Reports satisfaction surveys and so is worth considering first.
Choose a calling plan. You need to determine when and where you’ll be using a cell phone most in order to select a plan that’s right for you. As a rule, a national calling plan (which typically eliminates extra long-distance charges or fees for “roaming” away from your home calling area) is worth considering first, even if you don’t travel often. With a regional plan, roaming charges can be stiff if you make calls too far away from your home.
If two or more family members use cell phones, consider a family plan that lets up to four people share a large monthly pool of minutes for a small additional monthly charge. If you aren’t sure how many minutes of phone time you’ll use in a month, choose a plan with more minutes than you think you will use. It’s often better to let minutes go unused than to have to pay stiff per-minute charges if you exceed your allotment.
Select a phone. You can spend as little as $20 or as much as $600 on a cell phone. You need to begin your selection in the right price tier. Once you’ve settled on a price range, follow these steps:
First look for practical features. Cameras, games, music players, and the like are appealing, fun, and even useful for some people. However, features such as a folding case, volume controls on the side, and an easy-to-mute ringer will prove useful every day.
Hold the phone. In the store, take the phone in your hand and make sure you can comfortably access most keys with one hand. Try to make a test call and access the menu items on a working demo. We’ve found that phones with radical shapes are difficult to use. So are keys that are small, oddly shaped, or arranged in unusual patterns, especially if you’re trying to dial a number in dim light.
Check the display. Most color screens perform well in dim light, but some are hard to see in daylight. Try the phone outside or under bright light. In our tests, phones that display incoming and outgoing numbers with large black fonts against a white background were the easiest to read under most conditions. Also make sure indicators such as battery life and signal strength are clearly visible.
Consider insuring pricey phones. All major carriers provide insurance that covers lost, stolen, or damaged phones, typically for about $4 to $5 a month, with a $35 to $50 deductible. At those rates, it wouldn’t pay to insure a low-priced phone. But if you paid $200 or more, then insurance may be worth considering. Some insurance plans require a police report. Sprint uses CDMA where all other carriers (barring Verizon) use other networks. Sprint phones are made specifically for Sprint, and cannot be “unlocked” to be used with other carriers and you cannot buy a phone released for another carrier and have it unlocked to be used with Sprint. Sorry…..
