Shredded rubber mulch might look like a great idea for your green gardening initiatives. After all, this recycled mulch helps you reuse old tires, and mulching is great for your garden, right? Well, there’s another side to it. Shredded rubber is one of the least desirable mulches you can use in your organic garden. Here’s a look at this kind of mulch, its characteristics, and what most people should use another product entirely. We all want healthy gardens, and it’s worth it to make sure that we do things right.
Ground up tires have been tested as surface mulches and soil amendments in the past, and they’ve been shown to kill ornamental plants. Plus, they don’t smell good, and they can be a fire hazard when located near buildings. In fact, just a single application of this mulch may kill plants.
The problem is that more and more companies are offering shredded rubber mulch as a recommended product for gardens, and even using it to bulk up commercial compost. Their reasoning is that there’s a very slight nitrogen content to this rubber. Unfortunately, there’s a lot more other substances in it, including zinc and heavy metals such as cadmium, that can cause some real environmental issues.
The amount of zinc alone in ground or chipped rubber means that it shouldn’t be used in composts or gardens. Unfortunately, it can be hard to know if that’s what you’re buying. There’s no law that says commercial compost manufacturers have to tell you what’s in their product, after all. Even if you know enough not to use shredded rubber directly on your garden, you could be doing it accidentally.
For a long time, the US was worried about what to do with its used tires. After all, we have a lot of cars and a lot of tires get reused every day. Since rubber mulch is recycled, it even sounds like a good idea, but contaminants in the rubber make it much less of one. Even mulch packages admit it, billing themselves as good as weed suppressors, because of their zinc content. The slow decay rate of rubber means that it’s hard to get it back out of the soil after it’s been used, too.
Why crumbed rubber might be worthwhile as a playground mulch, where its plant killing abilities are a plus, or when used as part of asphalt to prevent frost cracking, it’s best ot keep it out of your garden. Stick to a natural mulch, without nitrogen binding characteristics, such as shredded leaves or even a compost mulch. Mulches that comes from non-toxic plant sources are a much better idea than industrial by products, no matter how much we want to recycle.
Rubber might seem like a good choice for organic gardeners, and some people are even saying that it is. But, take the time to check out the facts. Trace elements found in chipped rubber are bad for plants and can leach into the watershed. They’re certainly nothing you want to have in your food. Stick to mulches from natural sources and let the rubber be used for other purposes entirely. You’ll get much better results!

Eliminate Dry Skin Forever
When you watch the TV you are bombarded with products for dry skin for your feet; your hands; your whole body.
First things first, everyone has and gets dry skin even those beautiful super models we all see in those air brushed magazines. With that said the best and only way to stop dry skin on any part of your body is to moisturize.
Here’s my question – Why don’t the majority of people do that?
I have never understood this. I’m of Black origin and I have always moisturised my skin without a second thought. Black people have extra dry skin depending on which part of the world they live, I live in the UK and the British climate isn’t very helpful. If Black people didn’t moisturise the effect of dryness on our skin would and is not a pretty sight to see. Anyway like I said I have always moisturised, it’s not a routine we were tort, we just do it. As babies our parents moisturised our skin and as we grew up we continued to do the same ourselves.
In other cultures especially the European culture, it seems doesn’t have this routine built in. Yet the adverts push the dry skin issue 24 7, many decide not to do the moisturising thing until the effects of dry skin becomes very serve. I see a lot of images concerning dry, hard skin on the feet importantly on the heels. If you wear sling back shoes regularly, this makes the problem even worst for your heels are exposed to the atmosphere more while pressing against the hardness of the shoe’s sole. To combat this you need moisturise.
I hear you say “I know this, you are not telling me anything new”. If you know already why do many people wait until the skin becomes hard, very dry, cracked and even in some cases very painful? When the skin gets to this point, that’s when people start to look for products to combat the problem. You buy these products; use them and when the problem goes away, you STOP using it. Of course when you do this your skin stays fine for a while, then the problem reoccurs and you buy the product again, this then becomes a continues cycle.
Here’s my advice:
Find a moisturiser which you like and is compatible with your skin. There are many around for oily, dry or combination skin. Find one that is for dry or a combination skin all you have to do is only use a small amount on your face if you have oily areas. Buy one to use all over your body, this will save you money in the long run. A good product is Vaseline Care. It does the job and it’s not expensive, it absorbs nicely into the skin which is what you need.
Make moisturising yourself become part of your daily routine, like brushing your teeth or putting on your clothes is. If you continue to do this to your whole body everyday, you will be amazed at the results. Your skin will become smoother and softer. All those special products which the media want you to buy will not interest you because you won’t need them.
Moisturising everyday is good for your skin in the long term. Trust me, if you look at black people’s skin it always seem to glow, plus we look youthful, even the older generation look younger than their age and this is simply down to them moisturising their skin all their lives.
Let’s recap: Buy a moisturiser that you like (look at the Vaseline care range).
Every morning after you have a wash, clean your teeth, moisturise your whole body. Pay special attention to your feet, knees, elbows and hands.
That’s it – It’s that simple, 2 steps and you will be dry skin free.
Here are 2 tips I do:
When doing the washing up, wear rubber gloves to protect your hands. If like me you just wash up with your bear hands, moisturise your hands after you have finished. I actually keep some cream in the kitchen just for this purpose.
Pamper yourself tip. Do it about once every 2 weeks. When it’s time for bed, get a pair of socks and a pair of cotton gloves. I don’t have gloves so I use another pair of socks.
Here’s what you do: Get a generous amount of cream the best for this is the pure Vaseline (which is sold in jars) however using your regular cream will work just as well. With the generous amount of moisturiser in your hands cover your feet with it, don’t rub it in just coat your feet. Then put on your socks. Do the same with your hands, and then put on your gloves or socks. It can get a bit fiddly but it won’t last for long, once you get the hand of it. Then go to bed.
In the morning your feet and hands will be silky, silky smooth. What happens is the cream is absorbed slowly through the night into your skin. Still continue to moisturise as normal it’s just that your skin will be more super softer. You won’t get a salon treatment that can top these results. Try it and see.
To never have dry skin again – moisturise everyday, moisturise for life.

No, because then venting is a problem.

Best brand for itouch rubber cover/case?
when my itouch was ordered, i immediately got on ebay and purchased a green rubber cover. (it just goes over the back) for around $6.
well, the problems started when my friend was running with my itouch and fell, slamming it onto the sidewalk (she’s okay)
there is now a small chip on the edge. the metal rubs against the rubber and began a small tear on the edge of the case. now there are two tears on both edges on the bottom, so my itouch could easily slip out. (there is a hole almost all the way across for USB and headphones; thats the way it was designed)
now i am ordering the invisibleshield for the front and back, and i am looking for a good brand for a rubber cover.
any suggestions? i would like colors. preferably green, but i just really need a new case.
from experience, rubber cases could be the worst case choice for overall protection. Not only do they attract dust particles (which tend to easily scratch the metal back of your iPod) but they have the tendency to let a corner be reveal (rubber slipping over corner) … kind of like what you friend did. Anyways, I rarely ever drop my iPod, but whenever i do… i’m always glad that I have my plastic hard cover shell case. (The belkin ones come in different colours, and belkin is a trusted brand for iPod cases) … also, as an alternative, you could get a fabric covered case that would require a velcro attachment (since it wraps all the way around you iPod, how could it get damaged?) Mine works wonders, hope all goes well!

Silicone Rubber
Using rubber molds for candle making has many advantages. In this article, I explain the benefits and disadvantages of the different types of rubber molds.
There are three materials that rubber molds are made from; Latex, Polyurethane and silicone. Latex was the original rubber mold but with advances in the polymer industry, latex molds are quickly becoming extinct.
Polyurethane Molds: These are great for candle making. They are flexible but they do not stretch well. Polyurethane molds when stretched do not always retain their original shape. Because they do not stretch as well, some polyurethane molds come with a split down the side that allows them to be demolded easier. This does leave a noticeable parting line. They are usually cheaper than silicone rubber molds. They do need release agents and sometimes have a strong odor that can pass to your candle. Many large pillar and taper candles are made from polyurethane. When your candle hobby turns into a thriving business, polyurethane molds are a definite choice for mass manufacturing of unique shaped candles.
Storing and cleaning of polyurethane molds: Polyurethane molds should not be stacked or stored in a distorted position. If they are stored in a distorted position they will stay this way and could become unusable. Warm water and soap will be sufficient to clean these molds. Make sure that the water has either dried or evaporated before using the molds again.
Water and wax do not mix.
Silicone Molds: Silicone molds are the most expensive. They have superior qualities when compared to their counterparts. They don’t require a release agent. They come in many sizes, shapes and flexibilities. They will stretch to some degree and retain their original shapes. They are usually one piece and reveal no parting line.

I decided to do a review on Matrix Eyewear sunglasses for people that are unsure about buying them or just want an experience of someone that has bought of the site. In this short review I will explain what Matrix Eyewear is and how good I thought the service/quality was.
Firstly I am a massive fan of the Matrix and as soon as I seen the Matrix Eyewear site I wanted to buy them. However I am skeptical of buying of the internet and didn’t buy the sunglasses straightaway it took me a few days to finally go for it.
Matrix Eyewear sell the sunglasses from the Matrix trilogy. obviously they aren’t the exact same ones that the actors wore in the film otherwise they would cost an absolute fortune. Matrix Eyewear have sunglasses from 6 characters from the films, morpheus, neo, trinity, seraph, the twins and agent smith. There are three sunglasses to choose from if you want neo’s, 1 for each film in the trilogy and the other characters glasses are from the Matrix reloded. They also have an exclusive version of the twins sunglasses which is one of the pairs that I ordered.
The website is easy to use, professional looking with the Matrix code in the top, and simple to use when I first ordered from it. You would kind of expect it to be easy to use because there are 8 products to choose from. From the home page you just select from the 6 characters sunglasses or if you want to buy all of them click the package set. The package set is the best value, it works out at $17 per sunglasses and because you are ordering two or more sunglasses Matrix Eyewear also give you another free pair of sunglasses; Neo’s from the Matrix reloded.
When I first ordered of Matrix Eyewear I ordered the Twins exclusive edition to the site and Morpehus’s for my brother. Matrix Eyewear will give you another pair of sunglasses free if you order two pairs which is why I ordered the two pairs. They where also doing free delivery and a free microfiber bag to protect them in when I ordered of them, I think they still might be doing that bonus.
Security is always an issue when i order of the internet so before I ordered of Matrix Eyewear I checked the site for security and any warranty. The site uses 256 bit SSL security and gives you a 365 day warranty with your sunglasses so I was happy to go ahead and order.
After placing my order on Matrix Eyewear the sunglasses arrived about 12 days later because I live in Northern Ireland so I was expecting that long a delivery but that was still quite long. As for the sunglasses I can actually tell you that they are fine and sturdy , definitely worth the money. They are just as protective as other sunglasses and I wear mine a lot when I’m driving.
The only problem I have with my order of Matrix Eyewear is the free bag, it isn’t really protective, its more so to keep the glasses clean. I went out and bought a hard case to protect them better. However I can’t really complain because it was free. You do however get a free hardcase if you order Morpheus’s sunglasses so my brother was happy when I gave him his.
I think that’s about it on Matrix Eyewear. I do actually regret not buying the complete package because that is the best value and I’ll probably end up buying them all anyway! overall I highly recommend the Matrix Eyewear site for anyone that is a fan of the Matrix.
