One of the most common accessories a person carries is the cell phone. It certainly is no surprised that they can get lost. They come in such miniature designs these days, that keeping track of them sometimes can be a little difficult.
Cell Phones and Smart phones aren’t cheap either. You may have paid $49 for yours with a 2-year contract, but ladies and gentlemen, that is a subsidy provided by the handset manufacturer, enticing you to get their phone and the service from their preferred carrier. If you ever lose it and don’t have phone Insurance, you know that a replacement is outrageously priced…like in the $500 range.
In addition to purchasing phone insurance, ZOMM is offering a device that is much more affordable and practical. The Zomm is an ingenious device that keeps you from parting with your cellphone, no matter how forgetful you are. After you’ve paired ZOMM with your mobile phone, you can attach ZOMM to yourself or your key chain, and as soon as you stray too far from the phone, it will start to vibrate and eventually sound the alarm.
ZOMM can also be programmed to call the local emergency number, from anywhere in the world, when you press its panic button. Zomm also doubles as a speakerphone. “Mobile phones are packed full of personal information and confidential business communication, so losing one is a nightmare for most people,” said Henry Penix, co-founder of ZOMM. “My wife originally thought of ZOMM to prevent our family from leaving our phones at restaurants or coffee shops. With the added features of call notification and personal security, it became a “must-have” companion for every mobile phone we own.”
ZOMM is smaller than a normal electronic car key and easily attaches to a key ring. It fits comfortably in your pocket or purse and can even attach to a piece of clothing or workout gear. Similar in diameter to a poker chip, ZOMM features a single button for ease of use, LED lights for visual notifications, a microphone for two-way communications and a speaker for audible alerts including full speakerphone functionality.
As a wireless leash to your mobile phone, ZOMM sends an alert if you ever accidentally leave your mobile phone behind. With call notification, ZOMM will vibrate, flash lights and provide a sound alert for incoming calls when your mobile phone is out of sight; in a purse, gym bag or in a noisy environment. To answer a call just press a button and ZOMM is a fully functioning speakerphone. To send to voice mail, just press the multifunction button twice.
As a personal security device, ZOMM will sound a panic alarm and/or call for emergency assistance from anywhere in the world with just one press of a button. With its speakerphone capabilities, you can speak to emergency personnel without ever touching your mobile phone.
“ZOMM is a device that not only keeps your mobile phone secure, but also helps keep you and your family safe,” said Laurie Penix, ZOMM’s co-founder. “With two kids in college and a senior in high school, I feel better knowing they have a panic alarm that sounds an ear piercing alert to fend off a would-be attacker, and calls emergency assistance if they choose.”
ZOMM will be available for retail in the second quarter of 2010, in both black and white color options. It uses a lithium-ion battery with a single charge lasting approximately three days. ZOMM also comes with a standard micro USB wall charger, a micro USB charger that connects with any computer (for updates and activation) and optional clips for ease of use. No word on pricing.
Is a mobile phone charger more expensive to use to charge a phone than a USB cable?
I have a sony ericsson phone which came with a USB cable which i usually use instead of the charger to charge the phone. Does it use less energy to charge the phone if I charge it using the USB cable instead of the wall charger? I would charge it whilst I use the computer so I wouldn’t be wasting energy by just having the computer on to charge the phone.

When Ive used the USB cable to charge it before its taken about the same amount of time to charge then phone.
Well I would think so as it is basically using power from your computers USB hub which the power is already on. If you charge from the wall then you obviously have two plugs on so i would say yes.

Do you want a cool new cell phone, but don’t want to pay the high price of a new one? If so, you can visit Craigslist.org to find both new and used cell phones for affordable prices.
Craigslist is a growing online classified website. Internet users are able to buy, sell, and trade a wide range of products, including mobile phones. As an interested buyer, you must visit the website. From there, select your state and your city. Not all cities are listed, so you may need to opt for the nearest inside. Then, look to the left-hand side of the page for the search box. Perform a search using the words “phone,” “cell phone,” or you can search for a specific make and model.
After performing a search on Craigslist.org, you will get a list of phones for sale in your local area. Before getting excited about a popular mobile phone with a cheap price tag, click on the product headline to read more information. Inside, you will find a full product description and this is where you need to focus most of your attention.
When buying a new or used cell phone on Craigslist, you must proceed with caution. New phones often have a high price tag and this is okay because they are new, but you aren’t buying from a dealer or a retail store. Make sure you receive some discount off the estimated retail value. As for used mobile phones, ensure you aren’t unknowingly buying a broken cell phone. Sellers should outline in their postings if the cell phone is broken, but not all do. That is why you must ask when contacting for more information.
In addition to buying a cell phone, you will also need a charger. You may prefer to have a wall charger, car charger, or both. Some sellers include these cell phone accessories, among others, with the phone. If you must purchase a cell phone charger or headset separately, consider the added cost before agreeing to buy a used phone, as the overall cost will increase.
As previously stated, Craigslist is city based, meaning you select your nearest city to view for sale products. If you don’t mind traveling a few hours for a cheap phone, you need to adjust your searches according. Unfortunately, the website does not allow you to search multiple cities at once, but you can download the free Craigslist Reader from MotionT.com to do so.
Would a zune be compatible with the ipod Travel Charger?
I have a 16 GB Video Zune, with an input of 5 volts and 1.4 amps. I also have a Travel Charger for iPod, that I bought for my shuffle a while back, which is basically just a plug-in for the wall with a USB port on the top. Its output is 5 volts as well, but 400 milli amps, or .4 amps.
It shouldn’t fry my Zune, but I just want to make sure it will be safe, not cause any problems, and won’t void my warranty, if I do use it.
So have any of you tried this, and does it actually work?

Well something made for another product always has the possibilty of frying the product its being used in.I used a compatible laptop charger in my ihome speaker unit and it started smoking and made some squeking sound..No lie..I was shocked since it was the same voltage and everything so just be careful.

The goal of our experts is to help you make an informed decision when you replace or add an on-board charging system to your vessel. You are adding value to your boat by having an on-board battery charger. In addition, these chargers also offer you the convenience and the ability to charge multiple batteries at the same time. You no longer will need to drag out a portable battery charger every time your batteries need charging. Maintaining your batteries will be as easy as plugging in your boat to any 110 volt outlet.
The first step in the process is to identify what type of batteries you have on board your watercraft. You will need to look for some specifics about the batteries you are wishing to incorporate into the charging system. You will need to determine the following:
-Voltage
-Battery type
-Amp-hour capacity
Typically, in the marine world, you will be dealing with 12-volt systems. The battery’s capacity is usually listed on the battery as “ah” or amp hour. Marine batteries will be one of the following types:
-Flooded/wet cell lead
-acidStarved electrolyte
-AMGMaintenance free
Once you know a little about the batteries you are wishing to charge, it is time to pick a charger. I know from my years of experience tournament bass fishing, picking a charger is not where you want to cut dollars. Starting and trolling system batteries are very expensive. A good quality battery charger, backed by a top manufacturer, will prolong the life of these batteries and ultimately save you money.
Chargers typically come in single, double, triple and quadruple bank systems and should have independent outputs to charge each battery separately. The battery industry recommends charging your battery at approximately 15-20 percent of its capacity. For example, a 100-amp hour battery would be best charged at 15-20 amps. For your safety, be sure the battery charger you buy is UL listed to Marine 1236 standards and FCC compliant. If you choose a charger that is too large or small for your batteries it could damage them and decrease the life by overheating, gassing and causing excessive water loss.
Depending on what type of boating you enjoy, you will need to make sure your on-board charger’s waterproof housing is designed for fresh and/or salt water. It is also important that you make sure it is vibration resistant and incorporates built-in reverse polarity protection. To prevent boil over or your battery over-heating, be sure the charger you purchase has an automatic temperature compensation, this feature adjust output depending on the temperature to assure a fast full charge in any weather conditions. We suggest getting a charger that will charge in three stages typically these stages are:
-Bulk or quick charge mode - gets your batteries charged quickly
-Absorption stage - brings your batteries to a full charge
-Maintenance or trickle charge - keeps your batteries charged and protects batteries
I personally like units that offer on-board diagnostics and LED indicator lights to let you know the state of charge or condition of your batteries.
Once you have purchased your new on-board charger make sure it is securely mounted in your boat using stainless steel fasteners. We recommend you clean your terminals, use dialectic grease and make sure all connections are tight. Following these steps will insure years of trouble free operations. We take convenience a step further on our tournament boats, we install a receptacle plug. You are then able to plug your extension cord directly into the boat without even unlocking or opening a compartment.
Before operating your charger, be sure your batteries are not run down too far. In some cases, your charger may show you have a bad connection, even though you are confident they are properly installed, if this is the case it may be necessary to apply jumper cables from another battery to the one showing connection issues, this will allow your portable charger to recognize your batteries. Our professionals have informed us that this condition occurs often during very windy days, usually when they are operating the trolling motor for extended time on a high-power setting. On these days, batteries typically are completely depleted by the end of the day. When they plug in the charger it will indicate a bad connection. Simply using a set of short jumper cables to connect the starting battery to the trolling battery for about 3-4 minutes the battery will be picked up by the charger and the bad connection light goes out. They repeat this process until all the trolling batteries are recognized by the charger.
