Marine Battery Chargers – The Basics
Did you know that one of the most important and complicated decisions you can make in marine electronics is choosing the correct battery charging system for your boat? Charging your marine batteries is a simple process of driving electrical currents into your battery in the reverse direction as the discharge occurred. Although recharging batteries can be a simple process, many things do factor into your decision and play a roll in choosing the proper charger.
The goal of our experts is to help you make an informed decision when you replace or add an on-board charging system to your vessel. You are adding value to your boat by having an on-board battery charger. In addition, these chargers also offer you the convenience and the ability to charge multiple batteries at the same time. You no longer will need to drag out a portable battery charger every time your batteries need charging. Maintaining your batteries will be as easy as plugging in your boat to any 110 volt outlet.
The first step in the process is to identify what type of batteries you have on board your watercraft. You will need to look for some specifics about the batteries you are wishing to incorporate into the charging system. You will need to determine the following:
-Voltage
-Battery type
-Amp-hour capacity
Typically, in the marine world, you will be dealing with 12-volt systems. The battery’s capacity is usually listed on the battery as “ah” or amp hour. Marine batteries will be one of the following types:
-Flooded/wet cell lead
-acidStarved electrolyte
-AMGMaintenance free
Once you know a little about the batteries you are wishing to charge, it is time to pick a charger. I know from my years of experience tournament bass fishing, picking a charger is not where you want to cut dollars. Starting and trolling system batteries are very expensive. A good quality battery charger, backed by a top manufacturer, will prolong the life of these batteries and ultimately save you money.
Chargers typically come in single, double, triple and quadruple bank systems and should have independent outputs to charge each battery separately. The battery industry recommends charging your battery at approximately 15-20 percent of its capacity. For example, a 100-amp hour battery would be best charged at 15-20 amps. For your safety, be sure the battery charger you buy is UL listed to Marine 1236 standards and FCC compliant. If you choose a charger that is too large or small for your batteries it could damage them and decrease the life by overheating, gassing and causing excessive water loss.
Depending on what type of boating you enjoy, you will need to make sure your on-board charger’s waterproof housing is designed for fresh and/or salt water. It is also important that you make sure it is vibration resistant and incorporates built-in reverse polarity protection. To prevent boil over or your battery over-heating, be sure the charger you purchase has an automatic temperature compensation, this feature adjust output depending on the temperature to assure a fast full charge in any weather conditions. We suggest getting a charger that will charge in three stages typically these stages are:
-Bulk or quick charge mode - gets your batteries charged quickly
-Absorption stage - brings your batteries to a full charge
-Maintenance or trickle charge - keeps your batteries charged and protects batteries
I personally like units that offer on-board diagnostics and LED indicator lights to let you know the state of charge or condition of your batteries.
Once you have purchased your new on-board charger make sure it is securely mounted in your boat using stainless steel fasteners. We recommend you clean your terminals, use dialectic grease and make sure all connections are tight. Following these steps will insure years of trouble free operations. We take convenience a step further on our tournament boats, we install a receptacle plug. You are then able to plug your extension cord directly into the boat without even unlocking or opening a compartment.
Before operating your charger, be sure your batteries are not run down too far. In some cases, your charger may show you have a bad connection, even though you are confident they are properly installed, if this is the case it may be necessary to apply jumper cables from another battery to the one showing connection issues, this will allow your portable charger to recognize your batteries. Our professionals have informed us that this condition occurs often during very windy days, usually when they are operating the trolling motor for extended time on a high-power setting. On these days, batteries typically are completely depleted by the end of the day. When they plug in the charger it will indicate a bad connection. Simply using a set of short jumper cables to connect the starting battery to the trolling battery for about 3-4 minutes the battery will be picked up by the charger and the bad connection light goes out. They repeat this process until all the trolling batteries are recognized by the charger.

Straight Through Cables
Straight Through Cables.These are normally used for a serial to serial connection. Before the days of networking this was one of the best ways to connect computers together and is still used on unix machines as a primary method of connecting to the console. Toslink and Optical Cables.These are a new standard of transmitting audio down a fibre optic cable. Mainly used by dolby surround sound systems and new laptops.
USB CablePrimarily used for the new standard of printing. Now used in many different applications such as Cameras, phones and even playstations. One can even do USB to USB LAN Connections. There are currently two versions, USB1 and USB2. USB1 being 12MBps transfer speed whereas USB2 runs at 480MBps (MBps is the Mega Bits per second transfer speed).
Internal PC CablesInternal PC cables connect devices within the actual computer to the main board (motherboard). The slowest connection speed being used by the floppy cable then the IDE cable which connects the hard drive. SATA (Serial ATA) cables have now overtaken the IDE cable as the primary method of connecting a hard drive to a motherboard. SCSI cables generally are only used in servers for connecting the SCSI hard drives.
Network CablesThere are two standards of Network cables, Cat5e and Cat6e. Within these two standards there are two formats, straight through (standard) and crossed. The difference being that straight through s used in general networks throughout companies and is used for connecting computers to network wall sockets and from network patch panels to network switches (hubs). For smaller networks, i.e. two computers, a cross over cable is used between two computers which have network cards to allow them to talk to each other. Difference of speed between Cat5e and Cat6e is generally thought to be 100MBps for Cat5e and 1000MBps for Cat6e network cables. Although in reality Cat5e can run at 1000MBps but is not correctly shielded to do so.
ADSL and Modem CablesThe modem cable connects the telephone socket to a router or modem. The socket for connection to the modem or router is known as an RJ11 cable, which is the American telephone standard. There are two types of modem cable, one being the standard telephone wire being used by BT and other telephone suppliers. The other type being a Cat5e cable shielded to allow faster connection for fast broadband lines.
Null Modem CablesThese allow two computers to talk to each other directly through their serial (RS232) ports. The null modem cables are useful for allowing portable computers to connect to larger systems.
Firewire CablesFirewire is the next step on from USB cables commonly used in digital cameras, phones, laptops etc. The latest firewire cables now reach speeds of 800MBps. They also give serial ATA a run for its money as a lot of hard drive caddies are now firewire compliant.
KVM CablesKVM stands for Keyboard, Video and Mouse. They are used normally in server rooms where space is limited. For example, you may have four servers but only enough room for one keyboard , mouse and monitor each server would have KVM cables plugging directly into a box near the keyboard mouse and monitor (KVM switch box). This would then allow the user to control all four servers at the flick of a switch or key press whilst still only using one keyboard , mouse and monitor

this does exacrtly what it’s supposed to do, the solar charger is for charging up the pen and the video streams wireless to the receiver which could be in your pocket or bag. Even in a next door room as long as you are in the signal range. Best use for spying would be to leave it lying on a table, if you pick it up and use it as a pen it might seem a bit suspicius

How To Play Usb Tracks In Your Car
With the large improvement in technology, the number of modes of listening to music in the car while driving has increased to a great extent in an exponential way in the last decade. The latest development was the USB port. This can be found in the computers for data transfer between the computer and music players and mp3 players. This is however absent in the cars. But with little adjustments and connections, USB port can be used to play the mp3 player. This will need an extra adapter cable. This will allow any mp3 player to be plugged to auxiliary port on radio or even into the cigarette lighter. We must however know in detail how to use USB for a car stereo and the various connections involved.
In order to use the USB, we need mp3 player that has to be player, a USB cable, a cable that connects the auxiliary and an alternate current power adapter from the USB. These are some of the essential things needed without which this task cannot be completed. Some basic knowledge regarding the stereo and USB ports must also be there before doing this.
The first step in this process is to check the stereo thoroughly and make sure there is actually no USB port. It is a very small port measuring about half inches and quarter inch tall. The latest cars may have this port. There is a particular logo with trident near the port. If the car certainly does not have this port, check for the auxiliary port. This is present in most of the cars and is circular. It is used to connect the headphones.
The USB cable is connected between any mp3 player and USB port that is present in the car stereo. This is only when there is a USB port present already in the stereo. In this case, the controls of the stereo lets USB port are selected as the input device. If there is no USB port and instead have auxiliary port, the USB to auxiliary cable is connected between the stereo and the player. Then, the auxiliary jack is connected its corresponding port. There is also a representation for the auxiliary connection in order to differentiate it from other connections.
After this is done, the alternate current power adapter is connected to the USB cable that is in an mp3 player. This power adapter can be connected in the lighter for cigarette. If this cannot be used, it can also be connected to the power port that is especially for the alternate current of the car.
The radio is then adjusted in such a way that it finds a station that has no broadcasts. This is to ensure minimal disturbances to the player.
The frequency of the radio which is displayed on the alternate current power adapter is adjusted till it matches with that of the radio. By doing this, the music played by the player van be heard from the radio.
