PDAs come in different sizes which start from the size of a credit card and can go up to being as big as a hardcover book. The weight of the PDA can be anywhere between 100 to 1,500 grams. If you are considering portability, you need to consider the weight and the size of the product. People who travel frequently buy the GSM PDA phones because they can be used worldwide.
Many PDAs today have the inbuilt Bluetooth and the Wi-Fi, along with a large and color screens of a good quality. The PDAs with these kinds of features needs more battery power, so you have to check the life of the battery. Many PDAs today are available with rechargeable batteries. Look out for the PDAs with docking cradles, which are connected to PC USB port or come with the sync cables.
Buy the Bluetooth adaptors instead of the sync cables. Both cost the same, but Bluetooth adaptors are easy to use and can be connected to any machine. Another thing you have to buy is the Bluetooth headset, so that you can talk while working or driving without holding the PDA.
See to it that you have a RAM which is required your PDA. PDAs usually have 8 MB RAM, but you can also get additional memory card to expand the memory of your PDA. The PDA should include a compact flash slot or a PC card. This is essential as it is required to connect the PDA to a modem. Some PDAs have internal modems. See to it that you can view the interface without the help of a backlight. Also, check that the buttons on the keyboard are easy to use. If you intend to use the PDA to do a lot of writing, go for a handheld keyboard. It will make your life much easier.
See to it that the PDA software is adaptable with the applications which are used commonly. Also, make sure that they can be used for multimedia services. Take a look at the functioning of the PDA by putting in some data. And last but not the least, check out the warranty period. You do not want anything to go wrong with your new PDA without having some kind of a warranty.

Lithium ion batteries aren’t susceptible to “memory effect” which means you don’t lost battery life or performance if you don’t let it drain all the way or use it before the charging is done. But you’re best off charging it when it’s down to 10-15% battery left. And don’t let it sit charging for too long after you’ve finished charging.

Lithium Ion Battery
Laptop batteries come in all shapes and sizes also differ in their chemical composition. The chemistry of a battery refers to the chemical make-up of the cells inside the outer casing. The most common chemistries used in laptop batteries are:
NiCad (Nickel Cadmium) This is the oldest technology and is the least commonly used nowadays. NiCad batteries are prone to the “Memory effect” and are heavier than the newer technologies. NiCad is not environmentally friendly chemistry as it contains heavy metals, which cannot be disposed of in landfill sites. Most manufacturers have stopped producing batteries of this type chemistry. As an end user it will be increasingly difficult to source these batteries. The best alternative is external battery packs.
NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) these batteries are less likely to be prone to the memory effect and have a much better power to weight ratio than NiCad. This is a commonly used chemistry. These batteries are also being phased out by most manufacturers. However, many have lithium-ion versions that are compatible. Always consult the manufacturer or a reputable laptop battery supplier.
Li-Ion (Lithium Ion) – This is becoming the dominant technology due to its excellent power to weight ratio. Such considerations are becoming more important as mobile devices become smaller and lighter and battery weight becomes significant. Another plus point for Li-Ion is that it doesn’t suffer the memory effect at all. These batteries do have a tendency to lose charge quickly towards the end of their effective life span. If this starts
to happen the battery must be replaced.
These three technologies are quite different in the way they charge and therefore should not be substituted unless the device has been designed to take different chemistries. The owner’s manual will describe which batteries are suitable.

Lithium Ion
Lithium batteries are made in two different types. One is the lithium metal battery which is manufactured using lithium metal. This is not rechargeable and can be used to replace alkaline batteries in your electronic devices. It is particularly handy in the very popular AA size which powers so many devices. Lithium batteries have much longer life and higher capacity then alkaline batteries.
The other type is the lithium ion battery. This is made from lithium compounds rather than the metal itself. These compounds are much more stable than lithium metal and provide an excellent power source which can be recharged at least 500 times. Lithium ion batteries are more expensive than alkaline or lithium metal varieties but due to the fact that they can be recharged so many times they are in fact very economical.
Lithium ion batteries are smaller and lighter than other rechargeables and run at a higher voltage. As a result of the higher voltage many devices can be powered with only one lithium battery, rather than using several of lower voltage. They will also will keep their charge for longer periods and can remain at a high charge level for a number of months.
Due to their complex construction, and smaller manufacturing numbers, lithium ion rechargeables are considerably more costly than most others. It is likely that this price will become lower as popularity increases and manufacturing volumes rise. They are not manufactured in the popular AA, C and D sizes. The reason for this is that they are made in a range of different shapes and sizes to fit particular devices. Each then requires its own special charger. They are not available in standard sizes due to the fact that they must not be recharged with standard battery chargers which are different in voltage.
Standard lithium metal batteries are made in the normal AA, C and D sizes, and can be used to power any device which uses these sizes. They have long shelf life and long usage life and are excellent power sources. They can be used in any electronic device which uses alkaline batteries and will last longer.

the batteries dead.. no matter what you do to it.. you can charge it all you want.. itll still die out in a matter of seconds/mins/hours.. depending on the condition of the battery.. its natural.. when a battery dies, it cant hold a charge for long.. thats why its dying so fast even after a ful charge

Why chossing a li-ion Toshiba PA3465U-1BRS battery
Today’s battery research focuses heavily on lithium systems, so much so that one could assume that all future applications will be lithium based. This lithium hype is especially apparent when attending battery conferences where laptop battery manufacturers from all corners of the world meet to present their latest achievements. Just a few years ago, the argument was NiCd against NiMH; then the speakers argued on the benefit of Li-ion over NiMH and today the emphasis is on Li-ion Polymer. The Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) and Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) are hardly mentioned.
When buying a replacement Toshiba PA3465U-1BRS battery(http://www.sunvalleyus.com/ToshibaBattery/PA3465U-1BRS.html), the buyer often has the choice of different toshiba battery chemistries. Li-ion and Li-ion polymer batteries are used on newer laptops, whereas the NiMH and NiCd are found in older models. If the buyer has a choice, the sales person may advise a customer to go for the highest capacity rating and to stay away from the NiCd because of the memory effect. The customer may settle for the slim-line NiMH because it offers relatively high capacity in a small package and is reasonably priced.
The NiMH offers good value for the price but falls short in expected cycle life. The Li-ion is most economical for those who use a notebook daily. Up to 1000 charge/discharge cycles can be expected if used within the expected service life of about two to three years.
The Li-ion is a low maintenance battery which offers high energy, is lightweight and does not require periodic full discharge. No trickle charge is applied once the battery reaches full charge. The Li-ion battery can stay in most chargers until used. The charging process of a Li-ion is, in many ways, simpler and cleaner than that of nickel-based systems, but requires tighter tolerances. Repeated insertion into the charger or cradle does not affect the battery by inducing overcharge.
Switching to environmentally friendlier batteries is fitting, especially in the mobile phone market where the NiMH performs reasonably well and can be economical. The battery disposal issue is difficult to control, particularly in the hands of a diverse user group.

Does anyone know about any problems with a Vivitar digital camera not chargling properly?
It goes into a cradle to charge. Everything seems to be plugged in correctly, but the camera doesn’t seem to charge much if at all anymore. Is this normal? Do I need a new battery, or a new charger, or what?
The camera is a Vivitar Vivicam 5340s. It has a small square light gray battery that goes into it. Then to charge it you plug it into a cradle and the plug looks similar to a cell phone charger plug for my Razr. It seems like it won’t charge now. What should I do?
Does your Vivitar come with a rechargable battery pak or rechargable AAs? If you try to recharge regular Alkalines, it won’t work.
Also check that the camera is off while it’s on the cradle, otherwise it’s using energy while it’s on.
It would help if we knew the model of the Vivitar camera and what type of batteries it’s using.
