Regardless of market size, how to know who is the cream of the crop of Disc Jockey? When you talk to DJs, pay special attention to their professionalism on the phone. It often tends to spread to his style of DJ. A tense conversation does not bode well for confidence. Mobile Disc Jockey publications and groups trade there. Does your DJ subscribe? Are you a participating member? Ask.
And ask about a policy application. A good DJ should work some applications reviews in his routine. However, do not expect him to play them all. They may be inappropriate for the mood of the event. A DJ is not just a disc changer. He wants to motivate people. The art of puncturing is time, and forcing him to ignore their instincts, to play every request will result in an "uneven" (and less fun) party. But DJs aim to meet and anticipate the requests. (Receipt, largely the same in each case!)
It's OK to provide A list of some songs and tell your DJ that are "Must Have". But do not make a list of pages long. Remember also that given the opportunity to make that list the "nature of the beast" is that 13 years are egocentric. They provided a list of their favorite songs without thinking about the preferences of adults or leeway DJ. He will not notice, nor care, adults who are seated to grit his teeth for the Top 10 on MTV.
Beats Per Minute should remain constant throughout a "dance" song. Dances are slow to 60-80 BPM and the numbers are twice as many tempo. If a song goes through several changes of pace, it is very difficult dancing. And sometimes adults are not considered "danceability," either. I recently played a game where a gentleman called "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" Crosby, Stills and Nash. We all grew up listening to this song and while I do the song, I did not play because you just can not dance. I knew that if he touched it, would clear the dance floor! Not only that, but the song is over seven minutes long. An empty apartment for seven minutes … see the beginning DJ to schvitz! It will take a bath towel for perspiration.
Your child will also not thinking of song lyrics. Unless you're in the top of the CDs today (many of which have councils of parents), you may be surprised by some letters. And even if it's you enjoy the songs, Aunt Tilly, to faint!
Your DJ should be aware of the letters, but you can still provide him with a "Do not Play" list. Lyrics aside questions, some other songs are silly, but they're fun. And that's all that you want your case to be, right? So welcome to the dances novelty and interactive songs (which do not require a dance partner) as The Hokey Pokey, Macarena, Hands Up, Bunny Hop, The Electric Slide or Cha-Cha Slide. If the DJ play one or two, or three or four, will motivate your guests and fill the dance floor. (The DJ suck their breath and play them all. It may be tired of these tunes, but are the bread and songs of butter.)
Variety in music is essential and your DJ will bring a much larger, but only time allows songs 60-70 a typical 4-hour show. Having the 65 appropriate is important. DJs will not track through all Engelbert Humperdinck's Greatest Hits on your Mitzvah, not play like Heavy Metal or Rap music in a class of '60 Reunion.
A Bar / Bat Mitzvah much of the duration is 3 to 5 hours. How much time should be yours? If your function is for adults and children, the plan for 3 or 4 hours for lunch and 4 or 5 for a matter of the night. NOTE: If your group is for friends the child only, 3 hours is enough. That hour in a room just for kids party seems to last much longer than 60 minutes!
Are you planning a luncheon or an evening? There are pros and cons to both. Either way, you have plenty of company.
This does not mean a thing one way or another, but for the last years, the percentage of my lunches with clients has been increasing. Last year was almost a tie.
But the time of day is irrelevant. In their guests and friends expect your child two things: food and fun. Beware of food. Your DJ will do the rest.
